4 Guidelines for Introducing New Foods

Updated: Mar 30

As you introduce new foods to your baby at the recommended age of + 6 months, Plumbee recommends keeping the following guidelines in mind:

  1. Introduce one new food at a time, waiting three to five days before introducing another, to monitor for signs of food allergies or sensitivities.

  2. Watch for signs of readiness, such as the ability to sit upright with minimal support, showing interest in food, and the disappearance of the tongue-thrust reflex.

  3. Offer a variety of textures and flavors to expose your baby to a diverse range of tastes and promote acceptance of different foods.

  4. Follow your baby's cues and let them dictate the pace of feeding. Respect their hunger and fullness signals, and avoid pressuring them to eat more than they want.

Choosing the right first foods for your baby is an important step in laying the foundation for healthy eating habits and lifelong wellness. By offering nutrient-rich options that are appropriate for your baby's developmental stage and individual needs, you can support their growth, development, and overall well-being. Remember to approach this journey with patience, curiosity, and a sense of adventure, as you and your baby explore the exciting world of food together.
